MYBLUEPLANET Energy Assembly 2023

Assembly topic

How to organize Lausanne 2030 for energy sufficiency?

26.04.2023, 14:00 - 18:00

Guidelines

  1. Develop actionable proposals, not general principles.

  2. Focus on high-impact action - find ways to eliminate or significantly reduce the biggest uses of energy, especially fossil: cars, air travel, heating (46 m² per person to >21°C), excessive consumption of electronics, clothes, etc.

  3. To eliminate a use of energy, find the underlying need, and propose a better way to satisfy it. “Better” generally means avoiding an activity by organizing a neighborhood in a way it is no longer needed.

Examples

  • Ensure local provisioning of food, health and child care, basic repair services, social and admin support, and co-working.

  • Close neighborhood streets for cars, except emergency services. Use slow electric carts for deliveries.

  • Cover main pedestrian pathways city-wide with plant-covered roofs to protect against rain, snow, heat, and filter air pollution.

How will it work?

Participants will work in groups of 8-9 people, led by a facilitator, and independently documented by an observer.

Groups will deliberate, formulate and submit their proposals, and then all participants individually will vote on proposals from all groups.

Finally, voting results will be discussed in a short debriefing session, concluding the session.
